Two ways to save a still out of Adobe After Effects

In this tutorial, you’ll learn two reliable workflows to export a single frame from After Effects—perfect for thumbnails, client reviews, shot notes, or reference stills.

  • Method 1: FX Console (fastest)

    • With Video Copilot’s FX Console installed, press Ctrl+Space to open it.

    • Click the camera icon to capture the current composition frame.

    • Open the gallery (icon to the right) to view your snapshots.

    • Right‑click a still to copy to clipboard or save as PNG or JPEG. Copying lets you paste straight into apps like Slack or PRF.

    • Important: set your Composition resolution to Full before capturing. If the comp is set to Half or Quarter, the snapshot will be lower resolution.

  • Method 2: Native After Effects (no plugins)

    • Park the playhead on the exact frame you want and select the Composition panel.

    • Go to Composition → Save Frame As → File.

    • In the Render Queue, click Output Module to choose a format such as PNG Sequence or JPEG Sequence for a single still.

    • Choose an output location, click Render, and AE will save that frame as a standalone image.

These two approaches cover both instant sharing and controlled, high‑quality exports. Use FX Console when speed matters. Use the Render Queue when you need a predictable file path, format, and bit depth for delivery.
